Love, the antidote to all fear – Part 2
Rom 8:38-39 ESV For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, (39) nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God’s perfect love is revealed to us in the promises we have been given in Jesus. Each promise is a treasure we have in Christ, a revelation of His love.
2Co 1:19-20 ESV For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but in him it is always Yes. (20) For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
God is not two-faced; he doesn’t promise one thing and then do a totally different thing. Jesus Christ is the number one example of this; God promised a Saviour, Jesus came and died for the forgiveness of sins, and now all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a loud and definite ‘Yes’. Jesus is the complete expression of God’s faithfulness. Because Jesus Christ is faithful, Paul, who was a messenger appointed by Jesus would also be faithful in his ministry.
Because you are in Christ, God says Yes to all the promises he has given in Christ, and all he requires is that we believe Him. We are going to look at some of those promises.
Righteousness
2Co 5:21 ESV For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
God says “Yes! You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!”
Protection
Psa 91:11 ESV For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
God says Yes! I have given My angels charge over you to protect you in all your ways!
Blessed and Favoured
Psa 5:11-12 ESV But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. (12) For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
God says Yes! You are highly favored and abundantly blessed!
Qualified to promote the good news
2Co 3:4-6 ESV Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. (5) Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, (6) who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
God says Yes! You are qualified and anointed to share the Good News!
Accepted and approved
Eph 1:6 ESV to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
God says Yes! I accept and approve of you!
Holy and Blameless
Eph 1:4 ESV even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love
God says Yes! You are holy and without fault in My sight!
Given power to please God
Php 2:13 ESV for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
God says Yes! I create in you the desire and the power to do what pleases Me!
Free from sin
Rom 6:11-14 ESV So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (12) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. (13) Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. (14) For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
God says Yes! I set you free from all sin!
Forgiven now and always
Heb 8:12 ESV For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
God says Yes! You are forgiven. I don’t even remember your sins!
No longer guilty or condemned
Rom 8:1 ESV There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
God says Yes! You are free from all condemnation and guilt!
This is just a small sample of the promises of God to us, promises that find their fulfilment in Christ. When we think on, when we meditate on the promises of God, we are reminded again of the significance of our union with Christ. It’s because you are one with Jesus that God says, “Yes!” to His promises in your life. Because you are in Christ Jesus, you can boldly say, “Amen, Lord! I know You love me! Your promises are true in my life!” My heart is made free from all fear as I agree with the One Who loves me.
I remember one time when fear could have gripped my heart if I wasn’t convinced of God’s promises in my life. It was 2012 and I had handed in my notice to take a year out from work to follow the leading of God in my life. My wife Terry was working as a restaurant manager in a local hotel at the time. A month after handing in my notice the hotel went into liquidation and her job was gone. However, God’s promise to provide was so clear, and I knew that he would fulfil what he promised, and he has, and He is still providing nine years later.
His promise to prosper and not to harm, to give a hope and a future are not just words from a book, they are the words of God Himself, and they are yes and amen in Christ. God had taught me the principle of sowing and reaping, and I knew that my provision was not in anything I earned, but in God Himself. This is the promise of God to all his children.
2Co 9:6-11 ESV The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (7) Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
(8) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (9) As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”
(10) He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. (11) You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.
Ex
God promises that as he takes care of the birds in the air, he also takes care of us. And when we make it our business to put God first in our lives, to fill our thoughts with what he desires, its then we can believe that he will provide all we need, and once we believe it, we will see it.
If we don’t actively choose to give God first place in every area of our lives, then people, objects, goals, and other desires will all compete for priority. Any of these can quickly become most important and God gets pushed to second place. When this happens, we have made an idol of whatever has been promoted to first place, and this does not please God.
As you continually speak God’s promises, your heart will become established and rooted in the truth that your Heavenly Father says “Yes” to all of His promises in your life because of your position in Christ Jesus. All you have to do is to receive them by saying, “Amen! Lord, what You say about me is true!” Through your union and communion with Him, His love is brought to completion within your heart. His perfect love casts out all your fears!
God has been faithful to us a family since the first day we trusted in him to provide, and over the past eight years he has miraculously provided our every need. We have experienced God’s promise of peace and provision simply by agreeing with the One Who loves us.
2Pe 1:3-4 ESV His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, (4) by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
To sum up. God Almighty, Your Heavenly Father has given you everything you need to live a life free from fear. He has called you to receive His glory and goodness. Because He loves you, He has given you His great and precious promises so that you can escape the devil’s plan of fear and oppression and partake of His divine nature. The next time the devil tempts you to worry or be afraid, turn your heart to the Father and talk to Him about His great love for you. Keep in mind that it is through your union and communion with Him that His love is brought to perfection in your heart. As your heart is established in His love, you’ll find yourself confidently coming before Him as you say,
“Father, I know You love me because of the promise You’ve given me in Jesus.”
As you agree with the Father’s promise to you, you’ll see yourself living fearlessly, confidently and securely in Jesus, your life glorifying God. Watch as His perfect love casts out all your fears!
